Fresh Air and Strawberry Picking
Growing strawberries is a responsibility we take seriously, and we put a lot of time and effort into nurturing strawberry crops to ensure they grow healthy berries. By the time Eckert’s strawberry picking season arrives, berries are ripe and ready to be plucked from the plant. That’s how it works on our farm. We do all the major crop-growing work and you get to reap the benefits at harvest time when you come here to pick-your-own strawberries.
As a bona fide strawberry lover, you’ve probably seen strawberries at the grocery store. In fact, you can purchase fresh strawberries at Eckert’s Country Store. Yet, there’s something extra-special about picking your own. When you’re out in the field, you get to choose which berries to pick, and there’s an abundance of ripe berries, so you can be selective about the ones you want to take home.
Eckert’s strawberry season dates are typically May thru June. For information about season picking availability, please check Crop Update details.
What’s the Strawberry Picking Experience Like?
When you arrive, our friendly staff greets you and answers any questions you may have. We supply you with easy-to-carry boxes and then it’s time to hop in the tractor wagon for a leisurely tractor ride into the fields.
Picking fresh strawberries at our farm requires some mild exercise. Be prepared to do a bit of bending to reach the berries. Small children typically squat and reach into the plants. Whatever your berry picking style is, you’ll find that it’s easy to spot plenty of big, red berries. All ages can quickly find and pick berries, and you can pick as many as you want.
Before you know it, your basket is filled with beautiful strawberries. Enjoy eating your berry bounty raw, or sprinkle them over cereal or your favorite ice cream. Another way to enjoy fresh strawberries is to slice them and add them to a fruit salad. Consider whipping up a light dessert by making strawberry shortcake.
